Private-sector employees across the UAE are set to enjoy an extended holiday as the country celebrates Eid Al Adha next week. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has confirmed that workers will receive paid leave from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 8. Work will resume on Monday, June 9, offering residents a meaningful pause for reflection and togetherness.
Eid Al Adha, known as the “festival of sacrifice,” holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide. It honors the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was prepared to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command—a moment that symbolizes faith, submission, and divine mercy.
This sacred occasion is marked by prayers, charitable giving, and gatherings of family and friends. Many families who are able also perform the traditional sacrifice of a goat or sheep, distributing the meat to loved ones and those in need, reinforcing the spirit of generosity and unity.
The alignment of holidays for both public and private sector employees highlights the UAE’s commitment to equality and cultural respect. The long weekend offers a valuable opportunity to reconnect, recharge, and reflect on the values of compassion and faith that lie at the heart of Eid.
