No Nukes for Terror Sponsors: Trump’s Non-Negotiable Line on Iran

by admin477351

President Trump’s State of the Union Address crystallized his Iran policy around a single, non-negotiable principle: a country he describes as the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism will not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons. He framed this not as a preference or a goal, but as an absolute commitment.

Trump accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism across the globe, blaming the regime and its proxies for the deaths of thousands of American service members. He also accused the Iranian government of killing approximately 32,000 of its own citizens during domestic protests. He called Iranian leaders “terrible people” and said their record makes the case for keeping them away from nuclear weapons self-evident.

He recalled last year’s Operation Midnight Hammer as evidence that the US is willing to use military force to enforce this principle. The strikes, he said, destroyed Iran’s nuclear weapons program — though he acknowledged Iran has since tried to rebuild, adding urgency to the current diplomatic effort.

Trump confirmed two rounds of nuclear negotiations have taken place this month and that Iran is interested in a deal. But he said the foundational element of any agreement — a public Iranian commitment to never build a nuclear weapon — has not been offered. He called this commitment essential and non-negotiable.

His overall message was firm and clear: the combination of terrorism sponsorship and nuclear weapons is one the United States will not allow. Diplomacy is the preferred path to preventing it, but it is not the only path, and the US is prepared to use all available tools to enforce its red line.
