The Zayed Sustainability Prize, a prestigious award from the United Arab Emirates, has garnered an unprecedented number of entries for its 2027 awards cycle. A total of 10,233 submissions were received from 177 countries, reflecting a remarkable 32% increase compared to last year. This surge in participation underscores the prize’s global appeal and its recognition of innovative solutions addressing critical issues in climate action, health, food, energy, water, and education through global high schools.
In this awards cycle, the prize promises substantial financial rewards for the most impactful projects. Each winner in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will receive $1 million, while the finalists in these categories will secure $150,000. Moreover, six outstanding high schools will be honored with $150,000 each, with the finalists in this category receiving $25,000. These awards aim to support and encourage transformative ideas that can drive significant change in communities worldwide.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General, emphasized that the record-setting number of submissions indicates a heightened global demand for practical and innovative solutions aimed at improving lives. Notably, more than two-thirds of the applications originated from developing and emerging economies, with the climate action category attracting the highest number of entries. This trend highlights a strong global focus on addressing climate-related challenges.
The finalists for the 2027 Zayed Sustainability Prize will be announced in September. These finalists will then await the awards ceremony scheduled for January 12, 2027, where the winners will be celebrated for their contributions to sustainable development. This event not only honors groundbreaking innovations but also inspires further efforts to tackle pressing global issues.
