The United Arab Emirates has announced the reopening of travel to Lebanon for its citizens, lifting a previous ban that was instituted due to regional security concerns. This decision, made by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marks an important development in the relationship between the two countries and is expected to enhance bilateral cooperation.
To ensure a smooth travel process, Emirati citizens are required to register through the Twajudi emergency assistance service before embarking on their journey to Lebanon. The ministry emphasized that travelers will not be permitted to exit UAE border points without completing this registration, underscoring the importance of adhering to the new protocol.
The initial travel restrictions were put in place amid escalating regional tensions, affecting travel to several countries and prompting Emiratis in Lebanon to return home and seek guidance from UAE authorities. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed his approval of the UAE’s decision, noting that it highlights the robust ties between the nations and has the potential to foster closer connections among their citizens.
This policy shift follows recent high-level discussions between leaders of the UAE and Lebanon, aimed at fostering improved bilateral relations, regional stability, and enhanced security cooperation. Conversations between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun have focused on supporting peace initiatives and strengthening the bond between their countries.
The UAE’s move to lift the travel ban also coincides with the recent signing of a framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, which aims to pave a path toward peace. This agreement has been met with approval from regional partners, who view it as a significant diplomatic effort towards stability in the region.
