Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser from the United Arab Emirates, has criticized Iran’s strategy of targeting Gulf states and Jordan, labeling it a failure. He emphasized the urgent need for realistic and sustainable political solutions to address the ongoing regional conflict. Gargash warned that the current state of “neither war nor peace” is untenable and called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions. Additionally, he stressed the importance of restoring normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway that has been impacted by recent hostilities.
Gargash’s remarks come in the wake of renewed Iranian attacks on regional targets, following a fresh escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States. On August 31, the UAE Ministry of Defence reported the interception of an Iranian drone over its territorial waters. The ministry also dismissed claims from Iranian media that missiles had struck Al Minhad Air Base near Dubai, affirming that the facility remains in a high state of readiness.
Highlighting the need for a comprehensive resolution, Gargash insisted that any lasting settlement must consider both the political and economic ramifications of the conflict. He criticized a previous memorandum of understanding, arguing that it failed to offer a viable and acceptable roadmap for resolving the crisis.
