UAE and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Alliance Against Houthi Forces in Yemen

by admin477351

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia are renewing their collaboration to combat the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The UAE has reportedly decided to resume financial support for the Yemeni government forces, while Saudi Arabia is set to provide air support for the coalition fighting against the Houthis. This development comes amid increasing concerns over Houthi military advances and escalating attacks in the region.

The renewed cooperation between the UAE and Saudi Arabia signals a potential mending of ties after previous disagreements over Yemen’s political landscape, particularly concerning the role of southern separatist forces. The UAE had withdrawn its military involvement in Yemen earlier this year, having previously trained and funded several southern military units, such as the Giant Brigades.

In recent months, Saudi Arabia has been the target of multiple drone and missile attacks, which have been attributed to the Houthis. These attacks have targeted essential infrastructure, including airports and energy facilities. In response, Yemen’s internationally recognized government has initiated a counteroffensive to reclaim territory, particularly areas near Marib and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, though progress has been limited.

Tensions have also heightened in Aden, where a Houthi missile strike reportedly landed near the airport as a passenger plane was preparing for departure. This incident followed another strike on a presidential palace that resulted in at least five fatalities and 16 injuries.

The ongoing conflict has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the region. According to the United Nations, over 200,000 people have been displaced since August, placing additional strain on humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen.

Regionally, the conflict has drawn the attention of other nations. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has suggested that Egypt might take defensive actions to support Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the United Kingdom is considering requests for increased military assistance in response to the escalating situation.
