In a bid to bolster economic and strategic ties, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has arrived in Ottawa for an official visit to Canada. The visit centers on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors between the two nations.

During his stay, Sheikh Khaled is set to engage in discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. These talks aim to deepen economic connections, promote investments, and advance collaborations in sectors such as energy, mining, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure. The dialogue builds on a longstanding partnership and recent high-level discussions between the UAE and Canada, focusing on mutual economic growth and prosperity.

This visit marks a significant step in the relationship between the UAE and Canada, following the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) finalized in July 2026. The agreement is designed to reduce trade barriers and enhance market access for goods, services, and investments, creating fresh opportunities for businesses in both countries. The UAE’s commitment to investing $50 billion in connection with Prime Minister Carney’s visit to the UAE underscores the depth of this partnership.

Sheikh Khaled is accompanied by a senior delegation, including Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment. Their presence highlights the strategic importance of this visit in advancing bilateral cooperation.

The UAE has emerged as Canada’s largest export market in the Middle East, making this relationship a cornerstone of Canada’s regional trade strategy. Both countries are eager to expand commercial opportunities, attract investments, and strengthen ties in emerging industries, particularly in advanced technologies.

This visit to Canada follows Sheikh Khaled’s recent trip to Greece, where he focused on enhancing bilateral relations and announced a €15 billion investment initiative. These international engagements reflect the UAE’s broader strategy to strengthen global partnerships, expand investment opportunities, and foster economic cooperation with key global players.
